An anti-terrorism court in Quetta has granted bail to Akhtar Mengal on Tuesday. The decision was announced after a hearing related to a case registered last year.
According to reports, Akhtar Mengal appeared before the court along with his legal team. His lawyers, Sajid Tarin Advocate and Agha Hassan Baloch Advocate, also attended the hearing. The court reviewed the details of the case before issuing its decision.
The court approved bail for Akhtar Mengal against surety bonds of Rs50,000 each. The order provided temporary legal relief to the Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief. Officials confirmed that the bail was granted in accordance with legal procedures.
The case against Akhtar Mengal was registered last year. It relates to a rally held at Shahwani Stadium in Quetta. Authorities had filed a First Information Report (FIR) over the event. The case was later taken up by the anti-terrorism court.
During the hearing, the defense presented arguments in favor of bail. The legal team stated that their client had cooperated with the investigation. They also emphasized that the case did not justify continued detention.
The court considered the arguments presented by both sides. After reviewing the record, the judge granted bail to the BNP leader. The decision allows him to remain free while the case continues.
Legal experts say such bail orders do not conclude the case. They only provide temporary relief until further proceedings take place. The trial is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
The development has drawn attention in political circles. Supporters of Akhtar Mengal have welcomed the decision. However, officials have not issued any further statements on the case.
