Australian actor Julian McMahon dies at the age of 56, leaving fans and colleagues mourning his loss. The actor passed away on Wednesday in Clearwater, Florida. His wife confirmed that McMahon had been battling cancer.
Julian McMahon was best known for his roles in popular TV shows like Charmed and Nip/Tuck. In Charmed, he played Cole Turner, a fan-favorite character in the supernatural series. Later, he gained wider fame for his role as Dr. Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck, a medical drama that ran for six seasons from 2003 to 2010. His performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Co-star Dylan Walsh shared a heartfelt tribute, saying, “We rode this wave together and I loved him.” Walsh described McMahon as a loyal friend who brought laughter and support on and off screen. “Rest in peace,” Walsh added.
McMahon also appeared as Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four movies in 2005 and 2007. More recently, he starred in three seasons of FBI: Most Wanted. The show’s producer, Dick Wolf, called his death “shocking news.”
Born into a prominent family, Julian McMahon was the son of a former Australian prime minister. Interestingly, he also played the role of an Australian prime minister in the Netflix series The Residence.
Julian McMahon’s personal life was notable as well. He was married three times, including to Australian singer-actress Dannii Minogue, sister of Kylie Minogue.
