An Australian national of Pakistani origin, Khawaja Zeeshan, has filed a formal complaint against three police officers in Lahore. He accused them of assault and theft during an alleged incident in the Bhati Gate police jurisdiction.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on October 24 in the Tibbi City area. Zeeshan claimed that three police personnel stopped his vehicle and began beating him without any valid reason. The officers later argued that they had signaled him to stop, but he did not comply.
Zeeshan alleged that during the assault, the officers punched and kicked him multiple times, leaving him with visible injuries on his face, hands, and legs. He said that after the attack, the police forcibly took him to Bhati Gate Police Station.
In his written application, Zeeshan stated that the policemen also took away his mobile phone and car keys, preventing him from contacting his family. He mentioned that his niece and her husband eventually arrived at the station and helped secure his release.
The Australian national further claimed that the officers stole AUD 3,000 (Rs. 5.49 lakh) that were inside his car at the time. He appealed to senior authorities to take action against the accused policemen, saying, βI am an Australian citizen, and the police have wronged me. I request justice.β
Responding to the matter, SP City Bilal Ahmed confirmed that an internal inquiry is in progress. βWe are verifying when and how the incident happened,β he told reporters.
The case has drawn attention to concerns over police misconduct and accountability in Lahore. Many observers have urged authorities to ensure a transparent investigation and protect the rights of foreign nationals living or visiting Pakistan.
