In a tragic incident in Balochistan, the bodies of two victims, believed to be the result of an honour killing, were exhumed for post-mortem examination. The investigation has revealed that both individuals, a woman named Bano Bibi and a man, Ehsanullah Samalani, were shot multiple times. The post-mortem, conducted by Dr. Ayesha Faiz, a police surgeon at Civil Hospital Quetta, confirmed that Bano Bibi was shot seven times, while Ehsanullah was shot nine times. The gruesome incident occurred on June 4.

The Balochistan Police have moved swiftly in response to the incident, registering a case and arresting 13 suspects. Among those arrested is Sherbaz Satakzai, a tribal chief, who is allegedly connected to the crime. Satakzai was presented in an Anti-Terrorism Court, which granted the police a one-day physical remand. The investigation is ongoing, with police continuing to conduct raids to apprehend other individuals involved.

Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Sarfaraz Bugti, strongly condemned the killings, emphasizing that the victims were not married and clarifying that the state would stand with the oppressed. He vowed that justice would be pursued regardless of the suspects’ influence or status. The Chief Minister’s statement reflects the government’s commitment to accountability and rule of law in the region.

The Balochistan High Court has also taken suo motu notice of the case, instructing the additional chief secretary (home) and the Balochistan inspector general of police to submit a detailed report. This move highlights the importance of transparency and justice in addressing such cases.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the killings, which are believed to have been ordered by a local jirga. During a phone call with Chief Minister Bugti, the Prime Minister expressed his deep concern and directed that a transparent and swift investigation be carried out. He also emphasized that strict legal action must be taken against all those responsible for the crime, stating that no one, regardless of their position, is above the law.

The case has drawn widespread attention, and authorities in Balochistan are under pressure to ensure justice is served. With 13 arrests made and ongoing investigations, the people of Balochistan are hoping for a fair and transparent legal process to bring the perpetrators to justice.
