The incident sparked strong condemnation from both provincial and federal leadership. Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind denounced the assault, emphasizing that polio campaigns are a national responsibility and attacks against them are unacceptable. He honored the sacrifice of the fallen officer, stating, “We salute Shaheed Abdul Waheed, who laid down his life to protect Pakistan’s children.”

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also expressed sorrow over the loss, extending heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. “We stand with the family of Shaheed Abdul Waheed during this difficult time. He earned the highest honor through his martyrdom,” said the minister. He added that targeting those who are securing the nation’s future is inexcusable and pledged strict action against the culprits.

Polio Campaign Continues Despite Tragedy

Despite the attack, Balochistan’s seven-day polio eradication campaign entered its second day. The Emergency Operations Center reported that over 2.66 million children under five years of age are being administered polio drops across the province.

In addition to polio vaccines, Vitamin A supplements are being provided to strengthen children’s immunity. More than 11,000 teams are actively participating in this province-wide effort, aiming to reach every household.

First Lady Urges Public Support for Polio Eradication

Meanwhile, First Lady and Member of the National Assembly, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, called on the public to support the ongoing national polio campaign. In a message shared on social media platform X, she highlighted the campaign’s goal to protect children from permanent disability due to polio.

The countrywide initiative, scheduled from May 26 to June 1, aims to vaccinate over 44 million children. Around 400,000 frontline health workers are going door to door to ensure no child is missed.

“This is a mission of national importance. Let’s unite for a polio-free Pakistan,” she appealed, encouraging citizens to participate actively in the cause for a healthier future.
