A tragic terror attack on a passenger bus traveling from Karachi to Quetta has left three passengers dead, including family members of the late qawwali legend Majid Ali Sabri. The incident took place near the Neemargh area of Kalat, where unidentified gunmen ambushed the bus with a brutal shooting.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that at least seven other passengers were injured in the attack, which occurred just 30 minutes before the bus was scheduled to reach Quetta. Among the survivors was renowned qawwal Nadeem Sabri, who was on his way to perform at an event in the provincial capital.
In a heartfelt video message shared after the attack, Nadeem Sabri described the terrifying ordeal. He mourned the loss of his fellow artists, expressing his grief and confusion over the senseless violence. “We were only half an hour away when the bullets began to rain down on us. We are musicians, not militants. What wrong had we done?” he said, his voice breaking with emotion.
Sabri went on to share the extent of the devastation, saying, “Three of our brothers were martyred. Several companions are injured. Our instruments and luggage were destroyed. We are simple men—traveling to earn an honest living for our families.” His words highlighted the innocent nature of the victims, who were merely traveling for work.
Eyewitnesses and survivors described how the assailants opened fire without warning, causing panic among passengers. As bullets tore through the vehicle, the bus descended into chaos, leaving many in fear for their lives.
The attack has sparked widespread condemnation across the country, with cultural organizations and artists voicing their outrage. There have been calls for increased security measures to protect performers and civilians in areas prone to militant activity. The Balochistan government has launched an investigation into the attack.
The deadly assault has once again highlighted the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan. The safety of public transport routes connecting major cities like Karachi and Quetta has become a growing concern, especially in regions with high levels of unrest.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The injured passengers are receiving medical treatment, and efforts are underway to provide assistance to the victims’ families. The nation continues to mourn the loss of lives and calls for justice.
