Will Basant 2026 Be Celebrated Across Lahore or at Designated Venues?

LAHORE โ€“ The Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, Musa Raza, has officially announced the celebration of Basant 2026 in the city. Kite flying will be allowed under strict safety regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable festival.

The event will take place within Lahoreโ€™s district limits on February 6, 7, and 8, 2026. The government has granted conditional approval for kite flying, emphasizing strict adherence to safety rules. Unlike previous restrictions, the festival will be celebrated across Lahore rather than at designated venues.

To regulate the event, online registration portals for kite and string manufacturers have been activated via the e-Biz app. This digital registration is mandatory for all sellers and manufacturers. Only approved โ€œPinaโ€ shaped strings will be allowed, while charkhis (spools), nylon, plastic, and metallic strings are strictly banned.

The sale of kite-flying materials will be permitted from February 1 to 8, 2026. Authorities have implemented a zero-tolerance policy for violations, and police and district officers have been instructed to take strict action against illegal sales.

Safety measures have also been outlined for motorcyclists, who must install safety wires on their bikes. Kites and strings must adhere to prescribed size limits, and penalties will be imposed for violations. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been issued for district authorities, police, kite flying associations, and citizens.

Deputy Commissioner Musa Raza emphasized that the cultural festival of Basant 2026 is an important part of Lahoreโ€™s heritage. He stated, โ€œIt is our responsibility to ensure its safety while allowing citizens to enjoy the festival.โ€ Business owners can begin legal operations related to the festival starting December 30, 2025.
