The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has claimed that it successfully stopped a paper leak attempt during ongoing intermediate examinations. Officials said strict monitoring helped prevent major malpractice.
According to BIEK Chairman Fakir Muhammad Lakho, the annual intermediate exams began on Wednesday. The first phase includes students from multiple groups and streams across Karachi.
The exams involve over 160,000 students. They are being conducted at 175 examination centres in morning and evening shifts. Authorities said arrangements were made to ensure smooth conduct of exams.
For the first time, a digital attendance system is being used. Officials said this step improves transparency and reduces chances of cheating. Monitoring teams are also present inside centres during papers.
A dedicated mobile application is being used for real-time supervision. This system helps authorities track activities during exams and respond quickly to issues.
The chairman said 21 centres have been marked as highly sensitive. Special arrangements have been made to ensure fair examination conditions. Science papers are also being conducted using e-marking and OMR systems.
Despite these measures, a paper leak attempt was reported. Officials later clarified that a Botany paper from Intermediate Part-II was shared on WhatsApp groups after the exam had already started.
BIEK spokesperson said the incident cannot be called a full paper leak attempt since the paper was circulated after the exam began. The matter was still taken seriously by authorities.
Investigations showed the paper was sent from a government degree college centre in Konkar Village, Gadap. A female student allegedly used a mobile phone to share the paper.
The control room team traced the source using watermark tracking. They immediately informed the vigilance officer, Hina Shaikh, about the issue.
The vigilance team conducted a search at the centre. A mobile phone containing the paper was recovered from the student involved.
The examination centre administration has initiated disciplinary proceedings. The case has been forwarded to BIEK for further action under official rules.
Authorities reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy against cheating. They said any paper leak attempt or violation of exam rules will face strict action.
The examination process will continue until June 15, 2026, under tight monitoring and supervision across all centres.
