Benazir Income Support Programme has announced a major increase in financial assistance for low-income families across Pakistan, offering relief to households struggling with inflation and rising living costs.
Under the latest decision, the quarterly stipend under the BISP programme has been increased from Rs14,000 to Rs18,000. The increase represents a rise of more than 24 percent in financial support for eligible beneficiaries.
Officials said the revised payment structure will become effective from January 2027 as part of broader social welfare and economic reform measures.
The government stated that the decision was made to help vulnerable families manage increasing expenses caused by inflation and economic pressure.
Authorities also confirmed that written assurances regarding the BISP increase have been shared with the International Monetary Fund as part of Pakistan’s ongoing economic stabilization programme.
Alongside the increase in payments, the government is also planning to expand the programme further. Around 200,000 additional families are expected to be added to the BISP network in the coming phase.
BISP is one of Pakistan’s largest welfare programmes and provides unconditional cash assistance to deserving households across the country.
The programme mainly focuses on supporting financially vulnerable families, especially women-led households and people living near or below the poverty line.
Eligibility for BISP is determined through the National Socio-Economic Registry survey, commonly known as the NSER survey.
The system assigns a poverty score based on household conditions, family size, assets, and living standards rather than income alone.
According to officials, eligible groups generally include widows, divorced women, single mothers, low-income families, elderly dependents, disabled persons, and orphan-supporting households.
Authorities also stated that additional groups have recently been included in the programme. These categories include ever-married women aged 18 and above, unmarried women aged 40 and above, and transgender individuals with valid CNICs.
Citizens can check their eligibility for BISP through different methods. Applicants can send their 13-digit CNIC number to 8171 through SMS for verification.
People can also visit the official online portal to check their status or visit the nearest Tehsil-level BISP office for assistance.
Registration for the programme is completed through the NSER dynamic survey process instead of full online registration.
Applicants are required to provide their CNIC, household information, and supporting documents if applicable. Biometric verification is also completed through the NADRA system before final approval.
