Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari announced on Tuesday that kite sales in Lahore have reached Rs340 million in just two days. This surge comes as preparations for the Basant festival gain momentum across the city.
Speaking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, Bokhari said extensive arrangements are being made to facilitate citizens and visitors during the festival. Transport facilities are being organized in all parts of Lahore, and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif is regularly updating the public on standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure safety.
The minister added that surveys in the Walled City of Lahore identified several dilapidated buildings, which were sealed to prevent any untoward incidents during Basant.
Addressing complaints about high prices of kites and kite strings, Bokhari said authorities granted permission to supply equipment in four additional districts to meet growing demand. She expressed confidence that prices will soon stabilize, enabling everyone to enjoy the festival comfortably.
โThe aim is to eliminate the gap between demand and supply so that everyone can enjoy Basant safely,โ Bokhari said, urging citizens to celebrate responsibly and follow SOPs strictly. She emphasized that safety remains a top priority, and everyone must avoid risking their own lives or those of others.
The minister also highlighted the economic impact of the festival, noting that Basant has created employment opportunities for workers in eight to ten different industries linked to kite sales.
She further stated, โThis is not just Lahoreโs Basant. People from across the country come to Lahore to celebrate,โ showing the festivalโs growing popularity and cultural significance.
Officials hope that if the Basant celebrations proceed safely under proper guidelines, the festival will expand across Punjab in the coming years. Authorities continue to monitor preparations closely, ensuring a smooth and secure festival experience.
With kite sales booming and safety measures in place, Lahore is set to host one of the most vibrant Basant festivals in recent memory, attracting both locals and tourists alike.
