Boeing and Airbus May Discontinue Sending Spare Parts to PIA

Boeing and Airbus, two major aircraft manufacturers, are considering halting the supply of spare parts to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by mid-September due to the airline’s financial troubles.

PIA has submitted a request for an urgent bailout package to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) as it struggles to make payments to various stakeholders, including fuel suppliers, airport operators, aircraft lessors, creditors, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The airline has already grounded five out of 13 leased planes, with four more expected to be grounded soon due to cash flow problems.

The ECC recently declined PIA’s request for a bailout of Rs. 22.9 billion and a deferral of its monthly payments of Rs. 1.3 billion to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), along with loans and interest payments, until a restructuring plan is finalized.

Instead, a separate committee will be formed to review PIA’s restructuring program, while the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Finance Division will provide financial support to help the airline address its financial challenges.
