Budget 2026-27: Punjab Government Announces Laptops and Scholarships for Youth Support

Budget 2026-27 Punjab Government Announces Laptops and Scholarships for Youth Support

The Punjab government has announced a major education package under the Budget 2026-27, placing schools, colleges, and student welfare among its top priorities. The new financial plan aims to improve educational standards, expand access to learning, and introduce more technology-driven initiatives across the province.

According to the provincial government, Rs750 billion has been allocated to the education sector in the Budget 2026-27. This amount represents more than 15 percent of the total provincial budget. Officials say the investment reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the education system and improving learning opportunities for students in both urban and rural areas.

One of the key initiatives included in the budget is the continuation of the Chief Minister Punjab Laptop Program. Under this scheme, 110,000 laptops will be distributed to students throughout the province. The program aims to reduce the digital gap and provide students with the technological resources needed for modern education.

Student financial assistance has also been expanded through the Honhaar Scholarship Program. The government has allocated Rs15 billion for the initiative. More than 100,000 students are expected to benefit from the scholarships, helping many continue their higher education without facing financial difficulties.

The School Meal Program has also received attention in the Budget 2026-27. The initiative is being expanded across 13 districts and will continue providing nutritious milk to more than one million students. Officials believe the program will help address malnutrition among school-age children and support their overall health and academic performance.

Infrastructure development remains another major focus of the budget. Through projects led by the Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority (PEIMA), schools across the province are being mapped and upgraded. The government plans to improve missing facilities, construct additional classrooms, and rehabilitate unsafe school buildings. Modern technology is being used to identify infrastructure gaps and ensure resources are directed where they are needed most.

Special education has also received significant support. Following the establishment of Punjab’s first autism school in Lahore, the government plans to expand autism education centers to every division. The move is intended to provide specialized educational services for children with developmental needs.

The higher education sector is also set to benefit from several technology-focused projects. IT laboratories will be established in 244 colleges, benefiting nearly 500,000 students. In addition, new centers of excellence, leadership institutes, and STEAM laboratories will be developed to promote science, technology, innovation, and critical thinking among young people.
