Capital Development Authority has moved against an unauthorized housing scheme in Bani Gala, Islamabad.
The CDA has issued a final show-cause notice to developers of the Yar Muhammad Scheme. The scheme is located near former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence.
Developers have been given seven days to comply with the authority’s directions. The action could lead to the demolition of unauthorized structures if the developers fail to meet the requirements.
CDA Bans Construction and Property Sales
The CDA has immediately prohibited construction activities within the Yar Muhammad Scheme. Plot allotments, marketing and property transactions have also been stopped.
According to the authority, the scheme does not have an approved Layout Plan. It also lacks the required No Objection Certificate for its operations.
The final notice directs developers to remove unauthorized structures within seven days. They have also been ordered to stop the unauthorized use of land.
Developers must submit a written explanation to the authority within the given deadline. Failure to comply could result in further enforcement without another notice.
Illegal Structures Could Be Demolished
The authority has warned that enforcement measures could include sealing offices connected with the scheme. Unauthorized buildings could also be demolished during the operation.
The cost of enforcement could be recovered from the developers concerned.
According to the authority, its Planning and Development Department identified violations at the scheme.
Officials said the development violates Islamabad’s Capital Building Bylaws and other applicable regulations. The authority also said developers had received multiple warnings over several years.
Public notices and warning letters were reportedly issued between 2016 and 2025. Despite these warnings, unauthorized development and commercial activities allegedly continued.
Utility Companies Asked to Stop Connections
The latest action also involves several government departments and utility providers. Copies of the notice have been sent to the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration and Islamabad Police.
IESCO, SNGPL, SECP and PID have also been informed.
Electricity and gas providers have been directed not to provide connections to the unauthorized scheme. PEMRA and PID have also been asked to prevent advertising and marketing related to the project.
Bani Gala Construction Under Scrutiny
Bani Gala has faced longstanding concerns over unauthorized construction and housing developments.
The area is also considered environmentally sensitive, increasing concerns about unregulated development. Previous court rulings have addressed environmental protection and unauthorized construction in Bani Gala.
The Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court have previously issued directions concerning such development. Authorities were directed to prevent housing schemes from operating without the necessary approvals.
The latest CDA action follows years of warnings concerning the Yar Muhammad Scheme. Developers now have seven days to respond and comply with the final notice.
