The commissioning ceremony of the first HANGOR-class submarine, PNS/M HANGOR, was held in Sanya, China. The event highlighted strong defence cooperation and naval modernization efforts.
President Asif Ali Zardari attended the ceremony as chief guest. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf was also present at the high-profile event.
Officials described the submarine as a major step forward in Pakistan Navyโs modernization. The vessel is part of a broader effort to strengthen maritime defence capabilities.
The new submarine is a China-designed platform built with advanced naval technology. It represents growing collaboration between Pakistan and China in defence production.
President Zardari called the commissioning a historic milestone. He said it reflects Pakistanโs commitment to a strong and balanced defence posture.
He also stated that Pakistan is fully capable of protecting its sovereignty and maritime interests. He emphasized the importance of securing sea routes and economic lifelines.
The naval chief highlighted rising threats at key maritime chokepoints. He said maintaining global trade security requires advanced and modern naval forces.
The China-designed HANGOR-class submarines feature advanced sensors, modern weapon systems, and Air Independent Propulsion technology. Officials said these features significantly enhance operational capability.
