Cold Weather Intensifies with Rain and Fog Predicted in Northern Pakistan

A westerly wave is expected to affect eastern and northern Pakistan, bringing cold weather, rain, and fog over the weekend, according to the meteorological department. On Saturday, the weather will be cold and partly cloudy in most areas, with very cold conditions in the hilly regions.

Rain and thunderstorms, along with light snowfall over higher elevations, are forecast for eastern Punjab, Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, and nearby areas. Dense fog is anticipated in patches across the plains of Punjab during the night.

Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, with cold and partly cloudy weather nationwide. Rain, thunderstorms, and light snow will continue in Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding regions, while dense fog is expected in Punjab’s plains during early morning and night hours.

In the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed across the country, with isolated rain of 1mm in Mirpurkhas.

Moderate to dense fog was observed in parts of eastern and central Punjab. The coldest temperatures recorded on Saturday morning were in Leh at -13Β°C, Parachinar at -12Β°C, Astore at -11Β°C, Gopis at -10Β°C, Skardu at -9Β°C, Kalam at -7Β°C, and Hunza at -6Β°C.

In Karachi, the minimum temperature is expected to stay between 10Β°C and 12Β°C over the weekend, with a slight drop on Monday. Earlier this week, Karachi experienced the coldest night of the winter season, with a low of 8Β°C.

The chilly winds are making it feel 2 to 4 degrees colder than the actual temperature, with wind speeds ranging from 5 to 20 km/h from the north, northeast, and northwest.
