Couple Arrested in Trap Scam Case in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI – Police have arrested a couple for running a trap scam used to blackmail and extort money from citizens. The suspects, identified as Raheel and Urooj, were taken into custody after a government employee filed a complaint.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Section 21 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). This section deals with crimes involving the misuse of personal and private data.

According to the FIR, the scam started when the female suspect, Urooj, invited the complainant to her house. There, a compromising video of the victim was secretly recorded. The couple then demanded Rs200,000 for his release.

But the trap scam didn’t stop there. The suspects continued to blackmail the man, extracting another Rs510,000 in the process. When he finally refused to pay more, the couple sent the private video to his friends.

The police report also states that the scammers targeted the victim’s friends next. Using similar tactics, they trapped and extorted an additional Rs410,000 from them.

The Rawalpindi police acted swiftly after receiving the complaint. Investigators confirmed that the couple had used the same method with multiple victims. Both suspects are now under custody, and further investigation is ongoing.

Cases of trap scam like this are increasing in the digital age, where misuse of personal data is becoming more common. Police have urged the public to stay cautious and avoid sharing private information or meeting strangers in risky situations.

Authorities have also encouraged victims of such scams to come forward without fear, as the law protects them. This latest arrest serves as a reminder of the dangers of digital blackmail and the importance of reporting suspicious behavior immediately.
