Lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, have received bail in a case involving allegations of obstructing police officers. The case concerns claims that the couple interfered with officials performing their duties.

Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain approved their bail applications. The court accepted surety bonds of Rs5,000 each after Islamabad police presented the relevant case record.

The case was registered at Kohsar Police Station. The couple faced allegations of interfering with police personnel during their official duties.

However, the latest bail order does not automatically mean their release from custody. Separate convictions and other criminal proceedings remain part of their ongoing legal cases.

Bail Comes Amid Other Legal Proceedings

The latest relief follows a separate case in which Mazari and Chattha received 10-year prison sentences. That verdict was issued around a week before the latest bail decision.

The case concerned alleged disruption of security arrangements during an international cricket team’s visit to Islamabad. It was registered at Aabpara Police Station on October 25, 2024.

Proceedings took place under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. The court imposed 10-year prison terms and fines of Rs100,000 on each defendant.

The judgment also included additional punishments under provisions concerning obstruction of public servants. These proceedings remain separate from the Kohsar Police Station case.

Earlier Arrests and Court Decisions

The couple’s legal difficulties also include proceedings linked to a demonstration outside the Islamabad High Court. They were arrested on January 23 over allegations connected to that protest.

In January, a sessions court sentenced Mazari and Chattha to 17 years in prison. The sentences related to multiple charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

The couple later received relief from the Supreme Court in their legal proceedings. However, that development did not end their detention.

Fresh Arrest Followed Previous Relief

According to the provided account, Islamabad police arrested the couple again within hours of their earlier release-related relief. They were subsequently presented before an anti-terrorism court.

The new case involved allegations linked to a protest. The first information report reportedly accused them of participating in an event where anti-government slogans were raised and roads were blocked.

The latest decision to Grants Bail in the Kohsar case represents relief in one set of proceedings. It does not resolve the separate convictions or other cases involving the couple.

The legal status of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha therefore depends on the outcomes of their remaining proceedings. The latest bail order should be understood within that wider legal context.
