Amid growing tensions with India following the Pahalgam attack, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar addressed the Senate on Tuesday, reiterating Pakistan’s firm commitment to peace but warning of a strong and immediate response to any Indian misadventure. Dar said that Pakistan’s civil and military leadership stands united, sending a clear message of national resolve.

The Senate session reflected rare political unity, with lawmakers unanimously passing a resolution to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty. Dar thanked the Senate for showing national cohesion, adding that the National Security Committee had reviewed the situation in detail and taken key decisions to ensure national security.

Dar revealed that Pakistan had launched diplomatic efforts to inform countries including China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the UK about India’s history of aggressive actions. He warned that India’s potential move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty would be viewed as an act of war, similar to the post-Pulwama actions in 2019.

The Deputy PM also addressed the recent US statement on the Pahalgam incident, saying Pakistan had raised objections to both the condemnation of the United Resistance Forum and the omission of the Jammu and Kashmir context. He reiterated that Pakistan had no role in the Pahalgam incident and had made its position clear to the global community.
