AI Blunder: Dawn Newspaper Goes Viral After ChatGPT Note Accidentally Published in Business Section

akistan’s leading English daily, Dawn, has gone viral on social media after an unexpected AI-related blunder in its Business section, where an internal ChatGPT-generated note was accidentally printed in the final version of an article.

The printed line, clearly intended as an internal prompt, read: “If you want, I can also create an even snappier ‘front-page style’ version with punchy one-line stats and a bold, infographic-ready layout perfect for maximum reader impact. Do you want me to do that next?”

The error quickly spread across X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and LinkedIn, sparking amusement, memes, and sharp commentary. Hashtags like #AIGoneWrong and #ChatGPTFails began trending as users mocked the oversight. One commenter joked about “forgetting to proofread the robot’s work,” while another quipped that “AI has officially joined the newsroom.”

However, beyond the humor, the incident has reignited debate about the role of artificial intelligence in journalism. Media experts stressed that while AI tools like ChatGPT can support research and drafting, human oversight is vital to maintain editorial accuracy and credibility.

In response, Dawn issued an editorial note and public apology, acknowledging the mistake:
“This newspaper report was originally edited using AI, which is in violation of our current AI policy… The original report also carried AI-generated artefact text… The matter is being investigated. The violation of AI policy is regretted.”

The episode serves as a reminder for media organizations worldwide — while AI may speed up content creation, human editors remain essential to ensure accuracy, accountability, and trust in journalism.
