A powerful Cloudburst triggered devastating flash floods in the Thor area of Chilas, leaving behind widespread destruction and disrupting the lives of local residents. Homes, farmland, livestock, and key infrastructure were badly damaged as torrents of water rushed through the mountainous region.
According to local sources, the Cloudburst struck suddenly, sending massive floodwaters down a dry mountain stream. The unexpected surge caught many residents off guard and caused extensive losses within a short period.
One of the worst-hit areas was Thor Mek, where floodwaters entered residential neighborhoods and damaged a local mosque. Several homes were affected as mud, rocks, and debris swept through the community.
The flooding also destroyed a residential house, washing away valuable household belongings. Livestock and a vehicle were also carried away by the strong currents. Residents reported that nearly 200 grams of gold collected through placer mining, along with cash, were lost in the flood.
The Cloudburst caused serious damage to road infrastructure. Important road links connecting Thor with nearby areas were cut off after floodwaters washed away sections of the routes. The damaged roads have made it difficult for residents to travel and have slowed relief efforts.
Agricultural land suffered heavy losses as floodwater spread across fields in Thor Shaitan, Thor Mek, and surrounding areas. Standing crops were destroyed, causing financial hardship for farming families who depend on agriculture for their income.
Large amounts of mud and debris entered homes, forcing many families to begin cleaning operations immediately after the floodwaters receded. Many residents are now assessing the damage and trying to recover whatever belongings they can.
Local people have started relief and rescue efforts on a self-help basis. Community members are helping affected families by clearing debris, recovering damaged property, and supporting one another during the emergency.
However, rescue operations remain challenging because damaged roads have limited access to the affected villages. Emergency teams are facing difficulties in reaching several locations due to blocked routes.
Residents have appealed for government assistance to restore road connectivity, provide relief supplies, and help families recover from their losses. They also urged authorities to strengthen disaster preparedness in vulnerable mountain areas where sudden floods can occur.
