The dengue outbreak in Sindh continues to worsen, with four more people losing their lives during the last 24 hours. According to the Sindh Health Department, the total number of deaths from dengue this year has climbed to 25.
Health authorities reported 1,192 new dengue cases across Sindh in the past day, including 642 in Karachi and 550 in Hyderabad. The total number of confirmed cases in the province has now reached 10,502 since the start of the year.
Officials said that 227 patients are currently receiving treatment in government hospitals, while 212 are being treated in private facilities. To manage the rising number of cases, 257 beds have been reserved for dengue patients in Karachiβs government hospitals and 195 in private ones.
The provincial health department also confirmed that 37 laboratories in Karachi are conducting dengue tests β 12 public and 25 private. In Hyderabad, 18 laboratories, including 7 public and 11 private, are providing testing services.
Among the four dengue-related deaths reported in the last 24 hours were three children and one woman. The victims included a 3-year-old girl in Hyderabad, a 6-year-old boy in Badin, an 11-year-old boy, and a 30-year-old woman in Karachi.
Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah chaired an emergency meeting to review the situation. Health officials informed him that 239 dengue wards have been established in hospitals across the province, offering 1,289 dedicated beds. Free dengue testing is available in 117 government laboratories, and private hospitals have also reduced testing fees.
The chief secretary directed all departments to start union council-level fumigation drives, destroy mosquito breeding sites, and raise awareness about dengue prevention. Citizens have been urged to remove stagnant water, keep their surroundings clean, and seek immediate medical care if they develop symptoms of the dengue virus.
