ISLAMABAD: Azerbaijani national Diana has withdrawn her allegations against Ahmed Tanveer, declaring him innocent and requesting the case be closed. In her latest statement, she denied that Tanveer had raped her or taken her mobile phones.
According to media reports, Diana said her earlier accusations were made under pressure. However, she did not identify the people who allegedly pressured her. She also submitted a written statement through the Azerbaijani embassy, declaring Tanveer innocent and seeking closure of the case.
Diana’s latest statement differs from her earlier account presented before a Lahore court. In that statement, she had accused three men of sexual assault. Her recent denial specifically concerns Ahmed Tanveer, leaving the status of allegations against the other individuals unclear.
The report also stated that police arrested Tanveer despite his having obtained interim bail. No subsequent court ruling confirming the closure of the case was reported. Diana’s latest statement does not, by itself, establish a final legal outcome.
Diana’s Earlier Allegations
According to the report, Diana arrived in Islamabad from Istanbul on September 13. She reportedly spent five days in Faisalabad before travelling to Lahore. During her stay, she contacted two women identified as Nimra and Muskan.
Diana’s earlier account stated that she met Muskan at a café before they went to an apartment. She alleged that other people later joined them. She also claimed Nimra received between Rs20,000 and Rs30,000 from a man identified as Mohsin for a party.
In her previous statement, Diana alleged that she was prevented from leaving the apartment. She claimed she was told that her friends had accepted money. Her earlier allegations named Mohsin, Ahmed and Ali Zain in connection with sexual assault.
She further alleged that her bag, containing Rs200,000 and two mobile phones, was withheld. Diana said she was later pushed out of a car and sought help from members of the public. They reportedly contacted the police.
Investigation and Departure for Azerbaijan
The case was registered at a police station in Lahore’s Defence area, according to the report. Several individuals were reportedly arrested or detained during the investigation. Investigators also questioned more than 20 other people, the report stated.
The case attracted further attention when Diana reportedly refused to return to Azerbaijan after completing immigration clearance at Lahore airport. She eventually departed for Baku on October 4, accompanied by three police officers.
Diana’s latest statement has introduced a significant development in the case against Ahmed Tanveer. However, it remains unclear whether the authorities will formally close proceedings or how the revised statement will affect the investigation.
