LAHORE โ A Lahore-based doctor has accused SP Shehrbano Naqvi of pressuring him into paying millions following a patient dispute. The allegations, however, have been firmly denied by the police officer.
Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen, an eye specialist, claimed that he was coerced into paying a female patient who had undergone eye laser surgery at his clinic earlier this year. According to Dr Ali, the surgery in April was medically successful.
The doctor alleged that he was summoned to the police station under the instructions of SP Shehrbano Naqvi. He claimed that she told him the patientโs operation was incorrect and demanded a refund so the patient could seek treatment elsewhere.
Dr Ali Zain said the patient had forcibly taken Rs400,000 from his clinic, despite paying only Rs150,000 for the procedure. He added that he informed SP Shehrbano Naqvi about the prior payment, but was allegedly pressured to pay again.
The doctor further stated that, under police pressure, he handed over three cheques totaling Rs10 million to the patient. One cheque has reportedly been encashed, while legal proceedings have been initiated to stop the remaining two. He claimed the total amount taken from him so far stands at Rs7.5 million.
Dr Ali Zain also alleged that the patient had close ties with police officials. He said that SP Shehrbano Naqvi sent SHO Khurram to his clinic, during which his security guard was allegedly detained illegally.
The doctor argued that police had no authority to judge the success of a medical procedure without a formal medical report or board evaluation. He stressed that only a qualified medical board can determine whether an operation was properly performed.
In response, SP Shehrbano Naqvi rejected all allegations. She stated that Dr Ali Zain had visited her office only once and was advised to resolve the matter with the patient. She denied any harassment, force, or mistreatment, saying no abuse or violence occurred.
