Dozens Injured After Magnitude 6.0 Quake Strikes Indonesia

Dozens of people were reported injured after a powerful earthquake struck Indonesia on Sunday. According to local authorities, the magnitude 6.0 quake shook several towns, damaging buildings and forcing residents to rush outdoors in panic.

The National Disaster Management Agency confirmed that hospitals in the affected areas received many injured people. Most victims suffered minor wounds from falling debris and collapsed walls. Officials said rescue teams are working to ensure that no one is trapped under damaged structures.

Witnesses described the tremors as strong and lasting for several seconds. People ran into the streets as homes and shops swayed violently. Several houses, schools, and small businesses were reported damaged. Electricity supply was temporarily disrupted in some areas but has now been restored.

Authorities confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued. However, they urged residents to stay alert in case of aftershocks. Disaster response units have been deployed to distribute emergency aid, including food, clean water, and medical supplies.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency stated that the earthquake’s epicenter was located inland, reducing the risk of a tsunami. The agency continues to monitor seismic activity in the region.

Indonesia lies on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur frequently. The country has a long history of devastating quakes. In 2018, a powerful earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi killed thousands and displaced many more.

Government officials said schools and public buildings will be inspected for safety before reopening. Engineers are assessing the structural damage in towns most affected by the quake.

Dozens injured after magnitude 6.0 quake strikes Indonesia, but no fatalities have been reported so far. Authorities remain on high alert as rescue efforts continue. Officials have assured the public that emergency support will reach all affected areas as quickly as possible.
