The government has introduced a digital pension system for government employees in Pakistan. The new E-pension Portal aims to simplify pension processing.
Previously, retiring employees often faced lengthy procedures to receive their pensions. Many pensioners had to visit government offices several times.
The government developed the system in collaboration with the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues (AGPR). It is designed to reduce delays and improve pension services.
The E-pension system aims to process pension cases within days instead of months. It can also reduce the need for senior citizens to stand in long queues.
The digital platform offers several facilities for government employees and pensioners. These services allow users to monitor their pension cases more easily.
Online Pension Tracking
Employees can track the status of their pension applications online. They can check the progress without repeatedly visiting government offices.
This feature can help employees identify delays during the pension processing stage. It also provides greater visibility into their pension cases.
Direct Bank Transfers
The new system also allows pension payments to be transferred directly into commercial bank accounts.
Previously, pensioners were generally required to use a designated National Bank branch. Direct transfers can provide greater convenience for pension recipients.
SMS Notifications
Pensioners can receive SMS alerts on their registered mobile numbers. Notifications can inform them when their pension has been released.
They can also receive alerts when deductions are made from their pension payments. This feature can help pensioners monitor their payments.
New Biometric Verification
The E-pension system has also introduced biometric verification for pensioners. The new process replaces the traditional Life Certificate procedure.
Previously, pensioners had to visit a bank twice each year. They were required to submit a Life Certificate as proof of life.
Under the new system, pensioners can verify their identity using fingerprints. They can visit a bank branch or a biometric-enabled ATM every six months.
The government is also developing mobile applications for biometric verification. These applications may allow pensioners to verify their identity from home.
The proposed system could use a mobile phone camera for facial or fingerprint verification. However, the availability of this facility depends on the implementation of the applications.
Pensioners must complete biometric verification within the required period. Failure to verify their identity can result in temporary account blocking.
The account can be restored after the pensioner successfully completes the required verification. This process is intended to maintain the accuracy of pension records.
How to Register
Government employees must have their information uploaded to the digital portal before retirement. Their respective departments are responsible for completing the data entry process.
Employees need their CNIC, personal number and active mobile phone number. These details are required for registration on the digital system.
After the data is entered, the employee receives a unique Pension ID. The ID can be used for pension-related services and application tracking.
The new E-pension system is expected to make pension services more accessible. It also aims to reduce paperwork and improve processing times.
For retiring employees, the digital approach could make pension applications easier to manage. For existing pensioners, online services may reduce unnecessary visits to government offices.
The E-pension initiative represents a broader move toward digital government services. Its successful implementation could make pension processing faster and more convenient for citizens.
