On Tuesday morning, an earthquake was felt across Islamabad, Peshawar, and several northern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), creating panic among residents. People rushed out of their homes and workplaces as the tremors shook the region.
The earthquake was reported in Abbottabad, Charsadda, Chitral, Haripur, Malakand, Batkhela, Swabi, and nearby areas. According to local reports, the jolts measured 5.2 on the Richter scale.
The epicentre was located in the Hindukush mountain range, and the quake occurred at a depth of 190 kilometres, as confirmed by the national seismological centre.
Despite the widespread tremors, authorities have not reported any casualties or major damage so far. Residents were advised to stay alert and follow safety protocols in case of possible aftershocks. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) emphasized the importance of preparedness during such events.
Seismologists noted that earthquakes of this magnitude are relatively common in the region due to its proximity to tectonic fault lines. Experts also warned that aftershocks may follow the main quake, urging people to avoid risky areas and stay informed through official channels.
Local authorities have instructed residents to check their buildings for structural safety and to avoid using elevators until inspections are complete. Emergency services remain on standby to respond promptly if needed.
The recent earthquake serves as a reminder of the regionโs vulnerability to seismic activity. Officials continue monitoring the situation and have assured the public that all necessary precautions are in place to minimize risks.
Residents are encouraged to remain calm, follow emergency guidelines, and report any damages or injuries to local authorities immediately.
