'Faiz Hameed as a Valuable Asset that was Squandered' Says Imran Khan

On Thursday, Imran Khan criticized the military’s handling of former spymaster Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, labeling him as a valuable asset that was squandered.

Speaking informally at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Imran stated that while the military’s investigation into Hameed is their internal issue, he believes accountability should be applied uniformly.

He also claimed that General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa removed Hameed at the request of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, leading to a confrontation between Imran and Bajwa.

Imran also mentioned Intelligence Bureau (IB) reports indicating that Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan frequently visited General Bajwa and suggested that recent comments by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif regarding Bajwa’s extension supported his position.

The military announced that Hameed was detained on charges of land grabbing and misappropriation of valuables from a private housing society. Disciplinary action under the Pakistan Army Act has been initiated against him, with a Field General Court Martial process underway.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif noted that Hameed played a significant role in political developments after his retirement in November 2022 and hinted at his possible involvement in the May 9 incidents.

Asif suggested that Hameed might have been involved in providing logistical support and strategic advice during those events, pointing out his close relationship with former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.
