A tragic accident at the Akhbar Chowk flyover in Lahore claimed the lives of an elderly couple on Monday.
According to reports, the couple was traveling from Iqbal Town to their home on Ferozepur Road when the incident occurred. The man, identified as 65-year-old Sheikh Afzal, is believed to have suffered a heart attack while descending the Akhbar Chowk flyover.
Losing control of his motorcycle, Afzal collided with the boundary wall. Both he and his wife, 60-year-old Abida Noor, fell from the flyover.
Abida Noor died instantly, while Sheikh Afzal sustained severe injuries and passed away while being taken to the hospital.
Other Fatal Accidents in Lahore
The tragedy at the Akhbar Chowk flyover was one of several deadly accidents reported in the city the same day. In total, five more people, including a woman, lost their lives in separate traffic incidents.
At Shahkam Flyover, a motorcyclist was killed and two others injured after a collision with a car. On Canal Road near Shahkam Chowk, three people died and two sustained injuries in a crash involving a car.
Concerns Over Road Safety
Police have launched investigations into the causes of all the accidents. The multiple fatalities in a single day have renewed concerns about road safety, driver health, and emergency response systems in Lahore.
Authorities are urging drivers, particularly motorcyclists, to remain cautious and prioritize safety measures. Meanwhile, road safety experts emphasize the importance of regular health checkups for elderly drivers to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
