Fazlur Rehman Declares Parliament ‘Irrelevant,’ Calls for Protest March to Islamabad

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has declared that Pakistan’s parliament has become irrelevant, urging his party workers to prepare for a protest march towards Islamabad.

Addressing the Mufti Mehmood Conference in Dera Ismail Khan, the veteran politician said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route belongs to the people and called on his supporters to mobilize. “We believe in democratic politics, where there’s no room for abuse or indecency,” he stated.

Criticizing recent elections, Fazlur Rehman said the 2024 polls were “rigged” and that his party rejects what he described as a “stolen mandate.” He added that the 2018 elections were also manipulated and never accepted by the JUI-F.

The JUI-F chief also spoke on international issues, condemning Israel’s actions against Palestinians and recalling that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had declared Israel an illegitimate state.

Fazlur Rehman stressed the importance of dialogue and restraint in political discourse. “Propaganda and accusations on social media must stop. Only then can a path toward resolution be found,” he remarked.

He further emphasized strengthening Pakistan-Afghanistan relations through dialogue, adding that the two countries must act as long-term friendly neighbors. Commenting on regional tensions, he questioned whether opening a western front in response to India’s recent aggression would be in Pakistan’s national interest.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks signal renewed political mobilization by the JUI-F, as the party positions itself for another major protest movement in the coming weeks.
