Fazlur Rehman Urges Fresh Elections and Better Centre–Province Coordination

JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday called for immediate general elections, saying national unity and peace require a fresh public mandate.

Speaking to the media in Charsadda, Fazlur Rehman stressed the need for a functional working relationship between the federal government and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said no province could resolve public issues without support from Islamabad.

“Political parties do politics, but it is the government’s responsibility to solve the problems of the people,” he said, emphasizing stronger coordination between the Centre and provinces. He also noted that key meetings, such as those involving Sohail Afridi and the Prime Minister, should have taken place months earlier.

On international affairs, Fazlur Rehman alleged that the United States seeks to create global instability. “If the world remains unstable, America’s dominance will continue,” he said, adding that Washington wants Iran and Afghanistan to remain unstable.

Turning to domestic politics, he criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying, “I do not see oil in the PTI container,” referring to the party’s protest activities. He also warned that election result manipulation is no longer a secret and that wrongful actions can provoke dangerous reactions.

Fazlur Rehman said governments allegedly formed through rigging can only make claims rather than deliver results. He criticized the current government for failing to ensure peace, law and order, or economic stability. “The people have lost confidence in parliament,” he added, claiming that Pakistan survives “by begging” and is held hostage by the Financial Task Force (FTF) and international financial institutions.

Despite his criticism, Fazlur Rehman rejected any notion of national division. “I cannot even think about the division of Pakistan,” he said, urging that the rights of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa be addressed through dialogue and constitutional measures.
