The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has successfully auctioned a large land parcel owned by Bahria Town in Murree as part of efforts to recover outstanding tax liabilities. The auction was conducted under the provisions of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, and the Income Tax Rules, 2002.
According to sources, the property measures 527 kanal and 10 marla. It is located in Mauza Kathar Sharqi on Angori Road in Tehsil Murree, District Rawalpindi. The land was put up for public auction after several recovery attempts by the tax authority.
The auction was carried out to recover tax dues of approximately Rs. 26.47 billion. Officials said the recovery process followed legal procedures after earlier efforts to settle the outstanding amount did not succeed.
The latest auction marked a new attempt after a previous bidding process failed to reach completion. During the earlier auction, businessman Musawar Abbasi had emerged as the highest bidder. However, the transaction was not finalised.
In the latest development, the highest bid was submitted by another Pakistani businessman. Sources confirmed that the successful bidder is different from the participant who topped the previous auction.
The FBR had re-advertised the auction after the earlier process did not result in a completed sale. The authority invited fresh bids in accordance with legal requirements to continue its tax recovery proceedings involving Bahria Town.
Officials stated that the auction notice clearly mentioned the FBR’s authority to accept or reject any bid without providing a reason. This condition was included to ensure transparency and compliance with the applicable legal framework.
According to sources, the total amount required to purchase the property, including applicable taxes and related charges, was around Rs. 825 million. The successful bidder will be required to fulfil all payment conditions before the transaction is completed.
The auction is part of the FBR’s broader efforts to recover unpaid tax liabilities from defaulters through legal channels. Public auctions are one of the measures available under tax laws when outstanding dues remain unpaid after other recovery methods have been exhausted.
The land involved in the auction is located in a well-known area of Murree. Due to its location, the property attracted interest from potential buyers during the bidding process.
Officials have not disclosed the identity of the successful bidder. Further details are expected after the completion of the legal and financial formalities related to the sale.
The FBR has maintained that all procedures were carried out according to the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, and the relevant rules. The authority said the auction process was conducted to recover government revenue through lawful means.
