The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a strict crackdown on non-filers as the deadline to submit income tax returns for 2025 ends today (Wednesday). Officials have confirmed there will be no further extension, urging citizens to file their tax returns before midnight to avoid penalties.
According to FBR sources, the campaign against non-filers will begin immediately after the deadline, targeting high-profile individuals identified through digital monitoring systems.
Wealth Displayers Under Scrutiny
The FBR has zeroed in on individuals who display their wealth on social media. Those showcasing luxury cars, expensive jewellery, lavish homes, and branded clothing are being closely monitored. Authorities have also identified people who frequently travel abroad or make large purchases using debit or credit cards as potential non-filers.
Officials added that those seen gifting expensive items or throwing lavish cash showers at private events and weddings will also be investigated.
Social Media Monitoring Reveals Key Evidence
FBRβs dedicated social media monitoring team has collected extensive data from various platforms, identifying numerous potential non-filers. Notices are expected to be issued in the coming days.
Individuals posting photos and videos of luxury lifestyles without reporting taxable income are likely to face legal inquiries and financial penalties.
Strict Enforcement After Deadline
In the first phase, the crackdown will focus on wealthy individuals owning bungalows, farmhouses, and high-end apartments. Late filers will be categorized separately and face additional fines.
Officials stressed that timely tax submission is crucial to avoid enforcement actions and maintain transparency.
Promoting Fairness and Accountability
The FBR stated that the ongoing campaign aims not only to increase revenue collection but also to ensure fairness in Pakistanβs taxation system. The authority reiterated that every citizen must contribute responsibly to strengthen national accountability.
