FBR Seizes 80,000kg Tobacco Bales in Abbottabad Raid

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced that the Regional Tax Office (RTO) Abbottabad confiscated tobacco bales weighing approximately 80,000 kilograms during a large-scale enforcement operation. The FBR described the raid as โ€œunprecedented,โ€ highlighting its efforts to curb illegal trade and protect law-abiding businesses.

Officials said the operation demonstrates the RTO Abbottabadโ€™s commitment to stopping revenue leakages and dismantling illicit supply chains. The premises involved have been sealed, and a formal investigation is currently underway.

Describing the seizure as one of the largest in the region, the FBR emphasized that controlling smuggling and illegal trade remains a top priority. The confiscation of the tobacco bales underscores the authorityโ€™s strengthened monitoring and decisive enforcement strategies.

Earlier, the RTO Peshawar, under the supervision of the Chief Commissioner, carried out a separate operation at a Tobacco Companyโ€™s premises in Mardan on the night of 5 December 2025. During this enforcement action, officials discovered an undeclared plant and machinery producing cut tobacco for illegal cigarette manufacturing.

The company, known for popular brands such as Cafe and Ranger, was operating an additional unreported production line. This line was specifically preparing tobacco for the illegal cigarette market. Authorities said this covert operation was part of a wider network of illicit activities in the region.

By confiscating these tobacco bales, the FBR aims to send a clear message that illegal operations will not be tolerated. Officials reaffirmed that continued vigilance and enforcement actions are crucial in safeguarding the revenue system and supporting legal businesses.

The ongoing investigations in Abbottabad and Mardan are expected to reveal further details about the networks involved in illegal tobacco production and distribution. The FBR has assured strict action against all entities found violating tax and trade regulations.
