‘Ring of Fire’: First Solar Eclipse of 2026 Happens Today

‘Ring of Fire’: First Solar Eclipse of 2026 Happens Today

The first solar eclipse of 2026 is set to occur, featuring an annular eclipse popularly known as the Ring of Fire. During this rare event, the Moon will pass directly in front of the Sun in its elliptical orbit.

Unlike a total eclipse, the Moon will not completely cover the Sun. This leaves the Sun’s outer edge visible as a bright, reddish ring, creating the striking Ring of Fire effect that astronomers and skywatchers eagerly anticipate.

The complete eclipse will only be visible from Antarctica. In Pakistan, the eclipse will not be fully observable, but partial effects may be noticeable with proper precautions.

According to astronomers, the eclipse will begin at 2:56 PM Pakistan Standard Time, reach its peak at 5:12 PM, and end at 7:28 PM. These timings mark the stages of the Ring of Fire phenomenon as it progresses across the visible sky.

Experts strongly advise the public not to look directly at the Sun without proper protection. Observing the Sun without eclipse glasses or safe solar filters can cause permanent eye damage. Special eclipse glasses or pinhole projectors are recommended for safe viewing.

Astronomers worldwide have expressed excitement about this annular eclipse. The event provides a valuable opportunity to study the Sun’s outer layers, also known as the solar corona, which becomes visible during such eclipses.

Science enthusiasts and photographers are preparing to capture images of the eclipse. Many will document the Ring of Fire as it forms a bright circle of light around the Moon.

While Pakistan will not witness the full eclipse, space enthusiasts are encouraged to follow live streams from regions where the eclipse will be fully visible. The 2026 eclipse promises a spectacular astronomical event for observers worldwide.

The Ring of Fire eclipse serves as a reminder of the fascinating movements of celestial bodies and offers a unique chance to witness one of nature’s most striking solar events.
