In a historic move toward inclusive religious spaces, the countryβs first women-only mosque is set to be inaugurated this Thursday. The mosque, located within the Municipal Corporation premises, aims to offer women a comfortable and safe space to pray, particularly during shopping hours.
The project has been funded by Anjuman-i-Shehryan in collaboration with local traders. Organizers say the initiative was driven by a growing need for accessible worship areas for women in public spaces, where such facilities are often limited.
According to Anjuman leaders Mian Muhammad Sarwar and Sheikh Hassan Zafar, the new mosque will remain neutral and unaffiliated with any particular sect or school of thought. They emphasized that the goal is purely service-oriented β to facilitate women who wish to pray while engaged in daily activities such as shopping or commuting.
The mosqueβs design reflects simplicity and comfort, focusing on privacy, cleanliness, and accessibility. Separate facilities have been arranged to ensure convenience for women of all ages.
Social activists and citizens have welcomed the initiative, calling it a progressive step toward gender inclusivity in religious spaces. Many have praised the effort as a model for other cities to follow, encouraging broader participation of women in public religious life.
With its inauguration scheduled for Thursday, the first women-only mosque stands as a symbol of empowerment, community service, and respect for faith.
