Heavy rainfall and Flash Floods have damaged part of the Chapri Bridge in Mianwali district.

The bridge is located on Kot Chandana Road and connects several nearby communities.

Strong floodwater washed away a section of the bridge near Chapri. The damage has disrupted traffic and local road connections.

The affected route connects Chapri with Kot Chandana, Tola Mangli, Mohabbat Khel, Alf Khel and Janjuani.

The flooding followed heavy rainfall in the northern hilly areas of Mianwali. Rainwater moved through the Chachali hill torrent and reached roads, bridges and agricultural areas.

Flash Floods Affect Bridges and Roads

Another bridge on the Chapri-Kamar Mashani Road is also currently out of service.

The bridge was constructed in 2017. However, work on its shoulders and other required facilities remains incomplete. The latest Flash Floods have raised fresh concerns about transport infrastructure in the affected areas.

Residents have highlighted the condition of bridge shoulders and other flood protection structures.

They say these areas require urgent maintenance to reduce risks during periods of heavy rainfall.

Hundreds of Kanals of Crops Damaged

Floodwater has also affected agricultural land near Kamar Mashani Thal. An embankment along Nullah Adwala was breached, allowing water to enter nearby fields.

Agricultural areas in Wandha Kamalzai and Wandha Nanzian Wala were inundated. Hundreds of kanals of standing crops were damaged by the flooding.

Another breach was reported on the eastern embankment of Nullah Adwala at Kacha Barzi.

Water from the breach spread across surrounding farmland. Farmers are concerned about possible losses to millet, maize and other standing crops.

Residents Call for Flood Protection Measures

Residents and farmers said they had previously raised concerns about vulnerable infrastructure.

They highlighted weak bridge shoulders, embankments and flood channels as major concerns. According to residents, these issues had been reported since last year.

They alleged that the relevant authorities did not take timely measures to address the risks.

The latest flooding has renewed concerns about Mianwali’s vulnerability to hill torrents.

Residents have urged authorities to strengthen damaged embankments and bridge shoulders immediately. They have also called for silt and debris to be cleared from flood channels.

Improved drainage arrangements have also been requested to reduce future risks.

The recent Flash Floods have affected both transport links and agricultural areas across parts of Mianwali.
