The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for several parts of Pakistan. The warning covers Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Balochistan.
The authority warned that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs. Several mountainous districts remain at risk due to possible intense rainfall.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, areas including Diamer, Ghizer, Ashkoman and Gopis may face flooding. Nagar, Hunza, Shamshal, Skardu and Shiger are also among the areas at risk.
The NDMA also highlighted several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These include Upper Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Malakand and Kurram.
Kohistan, Mohmand and Orakzai could also experience flash flooding. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious.
Balochistan could also face similar weather-related risks. The districts of Zhob, Shirani and Musakhel have been identified as vulnerable areas.
The authority has also warned about possible urban flooding. Low-lying areas could experience water accumulation following heavy rainfall.
Cities and districts at risk include Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Peshawar, Mardan and Swabi could also receive heavy rainfall.
Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh are also on the warning list. Sheikhupura could also experience flooding in low-lying locations.
The NDMA has directed all relevant departments to remain alert. Officials have been asked to prepare for possible extreme weather conditions.
The departments have also been advised to ensure timely action during any flooding emergency. Emergency services may need to respond quickly if rainfall intensity increases.
The flood alert comes as weather conditions remain unsettled in several regions. Authorities are monitoring rainfall patterns and potential impacts.
Meanwhile, mainly hot and humid weather is expected across most parts of Sindh. However, several areas could receive rain, strong winds and thunderstorms.
Rain is expected in Sukkur, Larkana and Jacobabad. Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Umerkot could also receive rainfall.
Thatta, Badin and Karachi are also included in the weather forecast. Rain and thunderstorms may continue in these areas until September 16.
The weather activity is expected with occasional breaks. Residents should remain aware of local weather updates during this period.
The NDMA has urged departments to maintain preparedness in vulnerable locations. People living near streams, nullahs and low-lying areas should exercise extra caution.
