In the local markets of Gujranwala, a flour bag weighing 10 kilograms is now sold between Rs1,150 and Rs1,200. A 15-kilogram flour bag is priced between Rs1,650 and Rs1,680. These rates have increased compared to previous weeks.
Consumers say the sudden increase is putting pressure on household budgets. Many citizens are calling on authorities to control prices. They want stronger action against market overpricing and hoarding.
The price hike has also raised concerns about supply stability. Traders say transportation and wheat costs are affecting market rates. However, buyers believe stricter monitoring is needed to stop unfair pricing.
A flour bag has become a key concern for middle and low-income families. Daily wage earners are particularly affected by the rising cost of essential goods. Many families report difficulty in managing monthly expenses.
Meanwhile, the federal government has taken notice of wheat-related issues across the country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed officials to review the situation. A cabinet committee has been formed to address wheat procurement and distribution challenges.
Authorities have also been instructed to develop a clear accountability system. This includes monitoring the Ministry of Religious Affairs and private Hajj operators. The aim is to protect public interest and ensure transparency in services.
The cabinet has also approved recommendations related to Hajj Policy 2027–2030. These decisions were made after reviewing proposals from relevant departments.
In another development, the government approved a housing project in Farash Town, Islamabad. The project will benefit residents of Katchi Abadis. The Capital Development Authority will handle its construction and development.
Despite these policy decisions, the rising cost of a flour bag remains a major concern for citizens. People continue to demand quick relief from inflation. Authorities are expected to take further steps to stabilize prices in the coming days.
