LAHORE: Flour prices increased in several cities across Pakistan during the past week. The price of a 20-kilogram flour bag rose by up to Rs100 in some markets.
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Karachi and Larkana recorded increases of up to Rs100. The price of a 20kg flour bag reached Rs3,000 in Karachi. In Larkana, the same bag was available for Rs2,600.
Islamabad recorded the highest maximum price among the cities covered by the latest data. Consumers there are paying as much as Rs3,133 for a 20kg flour bag. The price reached Rs3,100 in Peshawar and Rs3,093 in Rawalpindi.
Flour prices also remained high in several other cities. A 20kg bag was selling for Rs2,960 in Bahawalpur. In Bannu, consumers were paying Rs2,950 for the same quantity.
The price stood at Rs2,800 in Hyderabad, Multan, Sialkot and Gujranwala. Meanwhile, a 20kg flour bag was available for Rs2,793 in Sargodha. The price was Rs2,750 in Quetta.
The weekly data also showed notable increases in Sukkur and Bannu. In Sukkur, the price of a 20kg flour bag increased by Rs60. It reached Rs2,560 during the week.
In Bannu, the price went up by Rs50 to Rs2,950. These increases added to the pressure on household food budgets in affected markets.
However, some major cities recorded comparatively lower flour prices. Lahore had one of the lowest rates, with a 20kg bag selling for Rs2,300. In Faisalabad, the price was even lower at Rs2,200.
The latest figures highlight significant differences in flour prices across major urban markets. The cost varies depending on the city and weekly market conditions.
Consumers in cities such as Islamabad, Peshawar and Rawalpindi are facing some of the highest rates. Lahore and Faisalabad, meanwhile, continue to record comparatively lower prices.
