Thousands of students have joined demonstrations across France during a nationwide day of mobilisation.

High school students gathered outside Lycée Henri-IV in Paris. Demonstrations were also reported in Vanves, near Paris.

Louis Boyard, an MP from the left-wing La France Insoumise party, addressed demonstrators outside Michelet high school in Vanves.

The gatherings formed part of the wider nationwide mobilisation involving students and their supporters.

Tensions Reported in Paris and Lyon

French media reported early signs of tension during some demonstrations in Paris and Lyon.

However, most protests across the country remained largely peaceful during the early stages of the mobilisation.

Authorities were monitoring demonstrations as large numbers of students gathered in major cities. The scale of disruption could become clearer as protests continue throughout the day.
