Over 100,000 Students to Get Free Laptops Under PM Scheme

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has announced the launch of the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, under which free laptops will be distributed to students across Pakistan starting October 30.

According to official sources, around 100,000 deserving and high-performing students from universities and colleges nationwide will receive free laptops under this initiative. The program aims to promote digital learning, enhance access to technology, and support higher education across the country.

The main distribution ceremony will be held at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to formally inaugurate the scheme. After the central event, similar ceremonies will take place in provincial capitals to ensure that students in all regions benefit from the program.

Officials from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) confirmed that the merit list of selected students has already been finalized and published. The selection was based strictly on academic performance and merit to ensure fairness and transparency in the distribution of free laptops.

The government believes that providing students with modern technological tools will help bridge the digital divide, particularly for those studying in underprivileged or remote areas. By giving access to free laptops, the initiative also supports the government’s broader vision of fostering innovation, online education, and digital literacy.

Students across Pakistan have welcomed the decision, calling it a positive step toward improving educational opportunities and making technology accessible to all. The scheme is expected to empower youth by enhancing their digital skills and enabling them to participate more effectively in today’s technology-driven world.
