LAHORE: A tragic road accident in Lahore’s DHA area claimed the lives of three people after a garbage dumper collided with a motorcycle near DHA Raya on Friday. The incident sparked outrage among local residents, highlighting ongoing concerns about reckless driving by heavy vehicles in residential areas.
According to Rescue 1122, the accident occurred when a speeding garbage dumper hit a motorbike carrying three individuals. Rescue teams arrived quickly but confirmed that all three victims had died at the scene due to severe injuries.
Police officials from the Defence C division reached the site shortly after the crash and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities temporarily halted traffic in the area to clear the wreckage and collect evidence.
Residents expressed anger over the increasing number of road accidents involving heavy vehicles such as dumpers, especially in densely populated neighborhoods like DHA. They demanded stricter enforcement of traffic laws and better regulation of garbage dumper routes to prevent future tragedies.
Officials have urged motorists and truck drivers alike to exercise caution, particularly in construction zones and areas with ongoing waste collection activities.
Similar incidents have been reported in Karachi in recent months, where multiple motorists lost their lives in collisions involving dumper trucks. In one such case, residents reacted violently, setting several dumpers ablaze and confronting the driver responsible before police intervened and took him into custody.
The Lahore Traffic Police have announced that a comprehensive review of safety measures for heavy vehicles will be conducted to reduce the risk of such fatal accidents. Authorities have also pledged to introduce stricter penalties for over-speeding and negligence by dumper operators.
