Government Employees Set to Enjoy Extended Four-Day Weekend This Month

Government employees may get the opportunity to enjoy a Four-Day Weekend later this month as Muharram 1448 AH approaches.

According to the expected calendar, Muharram is set to begin on June 17, bringing changes to important religious dates. As a result, 9th Muharram is expected to fall on Thursday, June 25, while 10th Muharram, also known as Youm-e-Ashura, is likely to be observed on Friday, June 26.

If the schedule remains unchanged, government employees could benefit from a Four-Day Weekend. The two public holidays for Muharram would be followed by the regular weekly holidays on Saturday and Sunday, creating four consecutive days off.

The federal government has already announced public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram every year to facilitate religious observances. These holidays help authorities manage security arrangements and ensure the smooth conduct of processions, majalis, and other religious gatherings across the country.

However, officials have not yet issued the final notification confirming the revised holiday schedule. The federal government is expected to release an official announcement closer to the dates. The notification will also provide details regarding administrative and security measures for Muharram observances nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has separately declared a public holiday on the 1st of Muharram across the province. The provincial administration department has issued a notification confirming the holiday for all government offices and institutions under its jurisdiction.

Authorities across Pakistan are also preparing comprehensive security plans for the Muharram period. Special arrangements are being made in major cities to ensure the safety of mourners and the smooth organization of religious events.

Law enforcement agencies are expected to increase security deployments, particularly during the 9th and 10th of Muharram. These dates hold great religious significance and attract large gatherings throughout the country.

The possibility of a Four-Day Weekend has generated interest among government employees, many of whom may use the extended break for travel, family gatherings, or religious activities. However, the final holiday schedule will depend on the official notification issued by the federal government.
