Syed Mehdi Shah met Abdul Aleem Khan on Thursday to discuss key infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity in northern regions.
During the meeting, both leaders reviewed a proposed motorway project that will connect major tourist destinations including Mansehra, Naran, Kaghan, Babusar Top, and Jalkhand. The project is expected to significantly enhance road access in the region.
The communications minister stated that the motorway would act as an alternative to the Karakoram Highway, one of the country’s most important routes. He added that the new road could reduce travel distance by approximately 100 kilometres, making journeys faster and more convenient.
Officials believe the motorway will play a major role in boosting tourism by providing easier and safer access to scenic northern areas. Improved connectivity is also expected to encourage economic activity, benefiting local communities through new jobs and business opportunities.
The government has emphasized that infrastructure development in tourist regions remains a top priority. Authorities aim to attract both domestic and international visitors by upgrading road networks and ensuring better travel facilities.
Governor Syed Mehdi Shah appreciated the efforts of the National Highway Authority and expressed satisfaction with ongoing development initiatives. He also acknowledged the federal government’s continued support for the progress of Gilgit-Baltistan.
