Pakistani cricketer Haider Ali has been cleared of rape charges in the United Kingdom. Police confirmed the case was dropped due to lack of evidence. The Crown Prosecution Service also confirmed there would be no further action.
Haider Ali was arrested on August 4 at Kentβs Spitfire County Cricket Ground after a complaint was filed by a British-Pakistani woman. Investigators later found there was not enough proof to proceed with the case. This decision officially ended the investigation.
Following the closure of the case, Haider Aliβs passport was returned, and he is now free to travel again. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that it will conduct its own internal review. Such inquiries are standard when players face legal issues, even after being cleared.
Throughout the investigation, Haider Ali denied all allegations. He said he knew the woman socially and was shocked by the accusations. He also cooperated fully with authorities during questioning and supported the investigation process.
The young batsman, aged 24, has already represented Pakistan in 35 T20 internationals and two ODIs. His international career was put on hold during the legal proceedings. Now that the case has been dismissed, he may focus again on his cricketing future.
Selectors are expected to wait until the PCB completes its review before considering his return to the national team. For Haider Ali, the dismissal of charges clears a major hurdle as he looks to rebuild his sporting career.
