Saudi Arabia has issued a strong advisory for Hajj 2025, warning pilgrims of extreme weather conditions, including soaring temperatures that could reach up to 47°C, as well as potential thunderstorms and low visibility due to dust storms.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) released detailed forecasts predicting harsh conditions at the holy sites during the pilgrimage. Daytime highs are expected between 40°C and 47°C, while nights will remain warm with temperatures ranging from 27°C to 32°C. Humidity levels may fluctuate between 15% and 60%, adding to the discomfort for pilgrims.

Dr. Ayman Ghulam, CEO of the NCM, noted that winds from the north and northwest may reach speeds of 25 to 35 km/h, stirring up dust and reducing visibility, particularly in open spaces and on roads leading to Mecca. He also cautioned that thunderstorms may form over the Taif highlands from the 8th to the 13th of Dhu Al Hijjah, potentially spreading to Mecca and nearby areas. These storms could produce powerful downdrafts and worsen already dusty conditions, creating additional challenges for those performing Hajj.
In response, Saudi authorities have called on pilgrims to take proactive steps to safeguard their health. Recommendations include staying hydrated, using sun protection like umbrellas, and regularly checking official weather updates.
To help alleviate the impact of the heat, the Kingdom has launched comfort-enhancing measures, such as the new “Cooled Roads Initiative,” which includes temperature-reducing walkways in Mecca to ease the journey for pilgrims.
Climate experts have raised alarms about the increasing threat of heat-related health issues during Hajj, pointing to global warming’s growing influence on regional weather patterns.
