Pakistan has introduced a new facility for pilgrims planning to perform Hajj in 2027, allowing them to renew their passports before the regular renewal period. The step aims to make the application process easier for intending pilgrims.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs requested this special relaxation to support Hajj 2027 applicants. Following the request, passport authorities issued instructions to facilitate early passport renewal services.
Under the new arrangement, applicants preparing for the pilgrimage can submit passport renewal requests in advance. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has made it necessary for pilgrims to have a valid Pakistani passport until November 16, 2027.
Passport offices across Pakistan and overseas locations have been directed to process early renewal applications from eligible applicants. The facility will be provided under existing passport rules that allow early renewal in special situations.
Authorities have advised pilgrims to ensure their travel documents remain valid. Applications for Hajj will not be accepted without a valid Pakistani passport meeting the required validity period.
The development comes as Pakistan prepares a new long-term framework for pilgrimage arrangements. The federal cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved the Hajj Policy and Plan 2027-2030.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs presented details of the new policy during a cabinet meeting. Officials said the four-year plan aims to improve planning, strengthen management systems, and provide better services for pilgrims.
According to the new policy, citizens interested in performing Hajj will not need to register every year. Instead, they can register once and remain eligible for participation until 2030.
A priority-based waiting list will be prepared under the new system. This approach is expected to make the registration process more organized and convenient for applicants.
The policy also includes a Shariah-compliant Hajj savings scheme. The initiative will allow citizens to save money gradually for future pilgrimage expenses.
Officials said the complete Hajj management system will be shifted to a digital platform. The system will cover registration, payments, complaints, monitoring, and other related services.
The new framework also includes government and private Hajj schemes, different duration packages, mandatory training, Takaful coverage, and emergency response arrangements.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that Hajj assistants should be selected through a transparent and merit-based process. He also called for third-party validation of Hajj arrangements to improve service quality.
