HANGU β At least three police personnel, including SP (Operations) Asad Zubair, were martyred in a Hangu blast at a police checkpost on Friday, authorities confirmed.
According to police, twin explosions struck the vacant Ghalmina checkpost under Baliamina Police Stationβs jurisdiction. The blasts destroyed the post structure and an adjacent room.
Unidentified attackers reportedly planted explosives at the vacant post. The first blast went off early morning. When SP Zubair and a police team arrived to inspect the site, a second Hangu blast targeted them. The SP and two constables were killed instantly, DSP Amjad Hussain confirmed.
βThe Ghalmina checkpost was empty during the initial blast. Terrorists detonated explosives, and when police arrived, a second device went off,β DSP Hussain said. Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
Earlier on Friday, terrorists also attacked the Zerai police checkpost in Khyber along the Pak-Afghan Highway. The post had been evacuated before the assault, and attackers detonated explosives and fired heavily. No casualties were reported due to prior evacuation.
In response to the attacks, authorities have imposed a two-day curfew across North Waziristan on October 25 and 26 from 5am to 7pm. All major highways will be closed to general traffic, with movement allowed only for security forces. The measure aims to ensure public safety and support ongoing operations.
In a separate security operation in Lakki Marwatβs Wanda Sheikhullah area on October 24, forces killed eight militants and injured five others. The operation followed credible intelligence about terrorist presence, and forces executed it with precision. Search and clearance operations continue under the National Action Plan (NAP) to eliminate remaining threats.
