Heavy Rain in Lahore Leaves Two Injured and Causes Widespread Power Outages

Several areas of Lahore received heavy showers and hail on Monday, bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave but also causing disruptions across the city.

The Heavy Rain changed weather conditions significantly after days of high temperatures. Dark clouds covered many parts of Lahore, including Garhi Shahu, Mall Road, Abbott Road, and nearby localities. Strong winds accompanied the rainfall, making the weather cooler and more pleasant for residents.

Many citizens welcomed the change, as the city had been experiencing intense heat in recent days. The sudden drop in temperature provided much-needed comfort to people across Lahore.

According to rainfall data, Nishtar Town received the highest amount of rain at 30 millimeters. Lakshmi Chowk recorded 26 millimeters, while Chowk Nakhuda received 24 millimeters. Mughalpura saw 23 millimeters of rainfall, and Upper Mall recorded 22 millimeters.

Other areas also received significant showers. Tajpura, Gulshan Ravi, and Iqbal Town each recorded around 17 millimeters of rainfall. Meanwhile, Gulberg received approximately 7 millimeters.

While the Heavy Rain improved weather conditions, it also created challenges for commuters. Traffic flow was affected in several parts of the city as roads became slippery and water accumulated in some areas. The hailstorm and strong winds added to the difficulties faced by motorists.

The weather conditions also led to an unfortunate incident in Wapda Town. A wall collapsed due to strong winds and rainfall, falling onto a passing rickshaw. Two people were injured in the accident. Rescue 1122 teams responded quickly and shifted the injured individuals to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment.

The storm also impacted electricity supply across Lahore. More than 50 feeders operated by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped during the rainstorm. As a result, several neighborhoods experienced temporary power outages.

LESCO officials said the feeder faults were caused by adverse weather conditions. They added that restoration work would begin once weather conditions improved and the rain stopped. Officials also stated that overall power availability remained sufficient and matched consumer demand.

While residents enjoyed cooler temperatures and a break from the heat, the storm highlighted the challenges that severe weather can create, including accidents, traffic problems, and interruptions to electricity services.
