The upper regions of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are experiencing intense cold as the first snowfall of the season continues, plunging temperatures below freezing in several areas. The ongoing snowfall in northern parts of the province, including Tirah Valley and Chitral, has severely impacted transportation, causing significant challenges for local communities.
Cloudy skies have also settled over the provincial capital, Peshawar, although the temperature there remains milder at 5°C. According to Express News, while the cold is felt across the city, chances of rainfall are minimal. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is actively working to clear blocked roads and restore access to snow-affected regions.

Despite the harsh conditions, tourists are still visiting the scenic snow-covered valleys, though authorities have urged caution due to slippery road conditions. Snow blankets areas like Tirah Valley and Chitral, transforming the landscape into a winter wonderland but also creating disruptions in daily life, especially with road blockages and the deepening cold.
Chitral and its surrounding areas, including Kalash Valleys and Garam Chashma, saw snow accumulations ranging from 6 to 8 inches, while Chitral town itself recorded 4 inches of snowfall. In the Lowari Tunnel area, snow reached one foot, with road-clearing operations ongoing. Despite the challenges, passenger vehicles from Peshawar and Islamabad have managed to reach Chitral.
Upper Chitral regions like Yarkhun and Khot have experienced even heavier snowfall, complicating inter-district travel and affecting commuters. The winter weather has enhanced the region’s beauty but left locals facing serious disruptions.
